Maguindanao electric coop first to become ISO certified in Bangsamoro region

The Maguindanao Electric Cooperative has passed the requirements for certification as an ISO 9001 organization; the first in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region.

ISO focal person Sarah Joy Nadera said the MAGELCO has shown great promise to be certified due to the cooperative’s high performance in the electrification of Maguindanao and in the light of the recent approval of the Bangsamoro Organic Law (BOL).

MAGELCO chief executive Ashary Maongco said Maguindanao will become the center of energy in the Bangsamoro region once the electric cooperative has been certified ISO 9001.

Maguindanao will also become the center of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region as agreed upon by all the parties concerned in the approval of the BOL.

ISO 9001 certification means the electric cooperative (EC) has passed the requirements of adopting a quality management system. The EC has recently been upgraded from class D to class B by the National Electrification Administration (NEA).

ISO certification also requires compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements which the MAGELCO has done in Maguindanao.

Of the 196 countries, about 163 countries have acknowledged ISO 9001 2015.  The Philippines is a member of the technical committee and the voting committee of ISO in Geneva, Switzerland.

A Bangsamoro political observer said the certification of the electric cooperative will make MAGELCO the first world class organization in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region.
