In her Instagram post last September 15, she explained the reason why she opted to miss the prestigious event.

“I decided to do my share in a way that I could probably be more of use. I think it would be better for me to donate directly to Bantay Bata the amount that I’m supposed to spend in the ball. It’s not much, but will help make a difference to someone else’s life,” Locsin quipped.

She also expressed her respect to her fellow stars who made their best in preparing and attending the Ball.

“I salute my friends at the ABS-CBN Ball who are doing their share to promote awareness on children’s rights and to help the beneficiaries of Bantay Bata 163 get the education that everyone deserves,” she said.

On the other hand, netizens expressed their different takes on Locsin’s absence from the ball.

“Same sentiment. I’m sure your donation will go a long way.”

“You disappoint thy fans, Gel. Sayang yung paghintay namin na mga fans mo.”

“I knew this is something that you would do. We missed you at the red carpet.”

With this year’s theme “Modern Filipiniana,” the ABS-CBN Ball — formerly Starmagic Ball, is a yearly event that brings together ABS-CBN’s biggest stars and talents. It coincides with the network’s 65th anniversary. Proceeds from the ball will be used for the benefit of Bantay Bata, one of ABS-CBN Foundation’s programs which aims to protect disadvantaged and at-risk children.
