The Filipino community is widely known as an avid supporter of beauty pageants, especially at times when our fellow ‘kababayans’ are competing internationally.

It is a common saying that we, Filipinos, take pageants seriously. We do it to help support our country’s representatives in showcasing the Filipino talent, beauty and advocacies.

This has been one of the mediums we leverage on to make our country known and be heard across the globe.

And in preparation for the the upcoming Miss World 2019 pageant in December, the coronation night of Miss World Philippines was held last Sunday, September 15 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

GMA Kapuso star and model Michelle Dee was crowned to represent our country.

Of 40 candidates who competed in the pageant, Michelle Dee triumphed at the end of the competition. She also brought home the special awards: Miss Blue Water Spa, Miss Best Skin, Miss Myra E, and Miss Bench.

Meanwhile, with the question about what invention does she think should have a comeback during the Q&A portion, she answered polaroid films.

She emphasized her love for arts, photography, and the feeling and memories she get when using polaroid pictures.

Completing the list of winners are: Isabelle de Leon [Miss Multinational Philippines], Katrina Llegado [Miss Reina Hispanoamericana Filipinas], Kelley Day [Miss Eco Philippines], Glyssa Perez [Miss Tourism Philippines], Vanessa Mae Walters [Miss Eco Teen Philippines], Shannon Kerver [1st Princess] and Casie Banks [2nd Princess].

Moreover, Michelle is known to be the daughter of actress and former Miss International 1979 Ms. Melanie Marquez. Plus she is a cousin of Winwyn Marquez who won the Philippines’ first ever title of Reina Hispanoamericana in 2017, which took place in Bolivia.

The July-born 22-year-old queen will be competing in London for the Miss World title from November 20 to December 14.
