Excitement has certainly brewed in Canada — in Calgary, at least. Why? It’s because the Philippines’ largest fast food chain Jollibee has opened for the first time on September 20.

As part of its opening campaign, a one year treat of a six-piece chicken bucket will be given to the first 50 people who will make a purchase of $25 or more. Furthermore, Jollibee will be giving away an iconic limited edition Funko Pop to those who bring “the most unique banners or posters” with the hashtag #ItsOurTurn.
As anticipated in every grand opening event, people would always watch out for headlines on who grabbed the first spot in line, On Thursday, 35 people were already seen waiting outdoors. And the most excited person who camped outside was Tim Nixon who patiently stayed since Wednesday 7PM after being convinced by his girlfriend.
“She’s a real big supporter of Jollibee and talked me into it and it seems like a real fun idea so yeah, I thought, let’s do it,” he said.
In an interview by Fiesta Filipino, he first tasted Jollibee in Las Vegas a year ago and it was great. When asked what’s keeping him motivated, he willingly answered, ” All the people, they’re great!”

The craze also gave other Calgarians to do some extra “skip the line” job for a pay per hour.

A large tent was provided to bring comfort amidst the cold, wet weather as seen in a video by Kieng Medrano. The crowd was also entertained by performers wearing bee-like costumes. Such a festive occasion! Truly there is something extra ordinary in this fast food chain that does not only build a thrill on every one but also creates an atmosphere that gathers not only Filipinos together but other races as well.

Jollibee is famously known for its Jolly Crispy Chicken, the sweet-style Jolly Spaghetti, yum burgers and sometimes named as “the McDonald’s of the Philippines”. This makes loving Filipino fans abroad highly anticipate its new branch openings, thus making every occasion phenomenal. Just this September 6, Toronto also opened its first branch and one netizen has shared on Facebook what seemed to be endless lines outside the building.

Meanwhile, in Edmonton’s opening, a guy named Jordan Haworth waited in line for three days and has never even tasted the food! And a record-breaking 8,000 customers were served on its first day.
Last year, Jollibee Foods Corp. announced that it will build more outlets in the US to 150 in 5 years and additional 100 branches in Canada.
Established in 1975, the store first started as a Magnolia ice cream parlor in Cubao. To date, Jollibee has more than 1000 outlets worldwide. The fast food chain is owned by Mr. Tony Tan Caktiong.
The Calgary branch is situated at 999 36 St. N.E.
