Recently, Marikina Mayor Marcelino “Marcy” Teodoro inked the “Libreng Pag-aaral sa Pagdodoktor para sa Marikenos” or City Ordinance No. 078 Series 2019. Under this ordinance, residents of Marikina City who dream to become a doctor can now fulfill their dream by applying for a full medical scholarship grant, which can be availed in nine schools in Metro Manila.

To note, the program can be availed at the Pamantasan Lungsod ng Maynila, Far Eastern University, Emilio Aguinaldo College, Manila Central University, University of Sto. Tomas, Fatima University, University of the East, University of Perpetual Help System DALTA, and St. Lukes College of Medicine. The scholarship, on the other hand, will only be limited to five slots per school year.

In addition, the Section 9 of the ordinance states that continuing medical students from their second to fourth year status can also avail of the scholarship.

The amount of the scholarship grant per semester will be determined by the chairman of the Medical Scholarship Board. The grant may be used for the scholar’s tuition, transportation, allowances, board and lodging allowances, uniforms, textbooks, and other necessary supplies. The implementation of the program will begin next academic year.

The funding for the scholarship program will be sourced from the School Board or to the General Fund of the Local Government of Marikina.
