- Filipino photographer, Danilo Victoriano, won first place in the APEC Photo Contest 2019
- His photo “Wind of Change” also made it to the Popular Choice Award
- Another Filipino, Klienne Eco, got the third place for his “No Cash No Problem” entry
A Filipino photographer successfully bagged the grand prize for the APEC Photo Contest 2019. His photo also had the highest number of votes and likes through the APEC website grabbing the Popular Choice Award at the same time.
Danilo Victoriano’s photo entitled “Wind of Change” relates to the several themes of Chile as an APEC host economy. In the photo, two women representing different generations with the younger one making a fan while the older one is browsing on a laptop, embodied the idea of empowering women in the economy and fostering a digital society.
Klienne Eco, also a Filipino, won third place with his photo “No Cash No Problem”. The photo, which is a sari-sari store setting taken from an unusual viewpoint, captured the moment the seller accepts payment of a canned good using QR Codes.
Victoriano earned SGD 2,500 as First Prize plus SGD 1,000 for the Popular Choice Award. Eco received SGD 1,500 as third place.
Victoriano was also a 2016 winner of the same contest while Jerry Lee took home the Popular Choice Award.
Following him, Arf Widodo placed second with his photo “Let’s Plant the Future”, where boys were seen planting trees in Indonesia. Another Indonesian, Adi Dharmawan, took home The Influencer Award.
“The APEC Photo Contest reflects the forum’s commitment to put people at the front and center of its work,” said the Chair of APEC 2019 Senior Officials.
The photo contest – now on its 9th year – was opened to all residents or citizens of APEC member countries. The criteria included theme coherence, composition, quality and creativity. The contest also accepted entries from mobile phone users.
Congratulations to our Pinoy photographers! Keep soaring high!
