Just like how hard it is to reach the finish line in a stiletto race, women are also faced with a lot of struggles as they stand up for their rights in the society.

But nothing —not even wearing high heels— shall stop a woman from following her heart’s desires and getting what she deserves, the City Government of Marikina believes.

This also goes for the 110 individuals who joined the Tour de Takong 2019 on Saturday, November 30.

For this year’s stiletto race, people of different genders, ages, nationalities, and social statuses gathered together at the Marikina Sports Center to join the run for women empowerment.

This year, even foreign nationals joined the race, including a Japanese, a Korean, and two Kenyan. Men from the Philippine Army, teachers, firefighters, foreigners, and law enforcement officers also participated to support the advocacy.

Tour De Takong is held annually since 2013, in line with the weeks-long celebration of Sapatos Festival. This is the second year that the Tour De Takong is in collaboration with the City Gender And Development.

For this year’s stiletto race, first place winners for both male and female categories bagged the P15,000 cash prize, while the second placers received P10,000 cash prize, and P8,000 for third placers.
