The coronavirus outbreak took a toll on weddings this year. With mass gatherings restricted due to enforced social distancing, many nuptial events were postponed, or some were even modified to a simpler intimate celebration.

But here is one couple whose original plan did not push through yet they were able to pull it off and made it even more memorable.

Non-extravagant yet more meaningful, this for us would best describe Wilbert and Harlene Severino’s wedding. Instead of holding a wedding reception, the couple used the budget to buy PPEs and personally handed them to the staff at the Bulacan Medical Mission Group Cooperative Hospital, Bulacan province. They also gave food packs to the medical frontliners at the hospital.

“Sa kabila ng lahat na may pinagdadanan tayo, may pandemic po tayo, ma-push po ‘yung holy sacrament po ng kasal, ma-honor namin si God sa kasal namin,” Harlene said in an interview with GMA News.

Wilbert said this is their way of thanking God that they were still able to get married and find love amid the crisis that is happening.

The remaining money was used to buy groceries given to the residents of Sta. Maria Town; one of the worst-hit areas because they were not able to work due to restrictions.

Wilbert and Harlene were among the couples who had been preparing for the wedding of their dreams this year. However, the quarantine measures changed their plans. Originally, they were set to wed on April 24, but it did not push through. But upon coming up with a decision, the wedding finally happened on June 18.

These are tough times for pairs who are set to marry amid the COVID. However, Harlene disclosed that they just need to keep the faith in God because He is in control of everything. Their wedding had its twist but it proved to be more memorable as their deed was borne out of love.
