- Hundreds of barangays in the country’s capital have been COVID-free since September
- The local government unit is hoping to keep it this way by constant implementation of COVID-19 protocols
- Manila Mayor Isko Moreno also promised a P100,000 reward for barangays with zero cases until the end of October
A total of 172 out of the 897 barangays in the City of Manila have been free of COVID-19 cases since September 1.
Manila Mayor Isko Moreno made this announcement yesterday, adding that he hopes that these barangays will remain COVID-free. “Sana po ay ma-maintain nila ito sa pamamagitan ng pakikipagtulungan nila sa mga alituntuning ipinatutupad ng Pamahalaang Lungsod,” Moreno said in a statement.
Moreno promised a P100,000 reward to barangays that will post zero COVID case until the end of October. Manila City Health Officer Dr. Arnold Pangan, meanwhile, encouraged residents to stay vigilant not only for the prize, but also for their health.
Manila Barangay Bureau (MBB) Chief Romy Bagay also stressed the importance of the city’s consistent implementation of policies to curb the spread of the virus.
MBB is assisting the government’s mass testing and contact tracing efforts while it also led the enforcement of COVID-19 guidelines set by both the national and local government to the city’s communities across its six districts.
Moreno is also continuing to intensify COVID response by increasing mass testing, improving its healthcare facilities, providing support to the medical frontliners, and making sure that contact tracing is done effectively.
