But how long can you stay that way throughout the pandemic?

One man was so brave to withstand a long drive to meet his love. John Paul ‘JP’ Gatbonton biked for 21 hours from Imus, Cavite to Anda, Pangasinan to visit his girlfriend Donna Ocomen for the first time.

He started his travel on October 10 from Cavite and dropped by his parents’ place in Nueva Ecija where he stayed overnight. He left early the following morning to continue his travel to Pangasinan.

John did his best to withstand the rains for 13 hours from Nueva Ecija to Anda. The region was affected by Tropical Depression Nika at that time. Moreover, the route was also challenging.

Donna Ocomen revealed in her post on social media,” Yung daan pa rito matarik. May bundok at may dalawang zigzags pa. Tumawid pa siya sa dagat. Hahaha. Grabe, kawawa siya. Ako lang ‘to pero yung effort niya, grabe.”

John met Donna’s parents first because they were the ones who fetched him in town. When they finally met, John was soaking wet.

“1st na-meet niya parents ko, bago ako, since parents ko ang nagsundo sa kanya sa bayan. Tapos basang-basa siya unang pagkakita ko.”

John and Donna met online way back in January. John works at Cavite while Donna is a second-year accounting student.

In an interview by the PNA, John posted in a Facebook group named “Life of an Introvert.” He added Donna after she commented on her post. The online acquaintance blossomed into a romantic relationship. He started courting her on February 1.

Finally, on October 12, he asked her to be his “legal” girlfriend and she said yes.

With the quarantine, travel from Pangasinan to Manila is prohibited, but John secured the necessary documents for his trip.

He is now having his 14-day home quarantine at Donna’s house.
