- A dog unexpectedly joined a track meet in a school in Utah
- It has amazingly overtaken the leading runner who was a few meters away from it
- The pooch got loose from its owners after seeing a baton being passed in the race
A track meet in a school in Logan, Utah made the headlines; not so much over the institution who won the championship but because of a pooch that has gr
abbed the show’s spotlight.
In a video that went viral online, the dog suddenly leaped from behind the running players and joined the track. At first, it was seen still far away from the leading athlete, Gracie Laney of Logan High School, but in a matter of seconds, it had instantly overtaken her and made it ahead of the finish line, even almost blocking Gracie.
“At first, I thought it was another runner and I was surprised because we had a pretty good lead. As it got closer, I thought, ‘That’s too small to be a person,’ and then I noticed it was a dog,” Gracie said on KSL.
She also noticed that the crowd’s scream got wilder. She thought it was just because the race was a big one but actually the audience was cheering for the dog.
But how did the furry fellow get there?
The dog’s name is Holly; owned by an athlete from another school. Sources said that the dog got loose from the athlete’s parents when it saw a baton being passed in the race. The parents apologized for Holly’s intervention but Gracie said there was no harm done.
In the video, Gracie almost tripped when Holly came her way.
Holly was given a special prize for its participation.
Animals breaking in sports events isn’t unusual. Cats, dogs, monkeys, and even birds sometimes interrupt games despite strict security measures. However, most of the time they do not cause any trouble but instead, bring more fun to the already hyped crowd.
